no service

I lost service about 4pm and after switching off 3 or four times I checked the 02 website to see if any notices about faults. When I didnt see anything obviously there, I contacted my sister who lives just a mile away and her o2 service is working. I therfore put it down to a faulty phone. It was only on delving deeper into the o2 site that I found these discussions and find that many other people are having the same problem all round the country. Why oh why have o2 not put something prominent on their website to save all the wasted time and give us some idea how long the problem is going to last??????? EJ Accrington Lancs

Let's hope you can find a network that will never break down.

Agreed, 100% reliability will never be possible for any network, but if the threat of a boycot exists then the net (no pun) effect hopefully would be for them to all raise their game. Maybe an opportunity for the dual sim phone to become more popular in the UK.

Threat of a boycott, nearly half the population use O2, that isn't going to work.

The truth is we will never know the true knock on effect of non renewed contracts that this outage generated, the fact that it even happened will soon be buried, but you can bet there will be some hot from the top down memos to other network engineering departments to the effect that it had better not happen here & some quick introduction of better back up techniques installed. This is but a very small taste of what devastation there would be on society if a cyber attack paralysed all networks.Hardly time to bring back the Strowger exchange, but an eye opener for the general public on what the security and other services are all too aware of I guess.

You mean like it didn't happen at Vodafone 6 months ago. No matter how many safeguards you put in place, there is always the possibility of a major network outage. It has happened to all the networks in the past and no doubt will again I'm afraid.

This applies everywhere and to nearly all that we do, I can't let it keep me awake at night though.
