In the past week or so, it's become next to impossible to send text messages, why is this? My device works perfectly and has never had an issue before.

Sending a simple message takes several attempts now and incoming messages appear delayed and out of sequence from the conversations I am having.

Why is coverage now so poor? Based on my current experience of this is service, it doesn't warrant the cost.

You can test you handset by borrowing a SIM or by buying a PAYG SIM on another network and seeing how that works.

Is this one place or wherever you go. It does not seem like a coverage issue. If you can make calls or have data SMS should go.

Guide: How can I sort out my network issues?

Guide: Is the network down for me or everyone?

Maybe worth contacting O2

They should be able to help you.

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

It's typically in one place (where I live and work), but occasionally the problem does occur elsewhere. Everything was fine until a few days ago.

One of my friends on a different provider was also having same problem.

With the amount of trees being cut down locally, I am assuming this is a 5G issue? (I'm on 3/4G)

I can make and receive calls, not tested data as I don't use it but sms is important.

SMS is a strange one as usually messages go even when you can't call.

Don't know if this will help

Thanks Oxonian, yesterday I used the O2 network status tool to check my postcode and sure enough there is a red marker on my exact location, stating that data is affected due to it being a high traffic area (I live in a rural town which is no way dense or over populated) This baffled me somewhat as to my understanding SMS was using a different protocol entirely. But it's clear the location I'm at is flagged as being problematic, despite not really knowing why. As mentioned previously with the trees being felled locally, I am sure this is more to do with 5G roll out and tweaking than anything actually changing on the carrier service.

Had I not discovered this information I would have taken your advice and got the SIM but for the moment reverting to internet based messaging to be on the safe side. Cheers.
