Hi guys I've received a response about the absence of texts from the wifi calling feature. Please see below.

O2's Wifi Calling service doesn’t currently support the ability to send/receive SMS when there is no cellular coverage available. We’re continually working to improve our products and services and will let you know of any changes.

You could try sending messages over wifi using apps such as FB messenger WhatsApp or Viber

We have asked why O2 have chosen not to include sms like other networks have but not had a response as yet.
@Martin-O2 any update on this please?
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Only EE and Three allow SMS over wifi I believe.

Vodafone don't at present, but allow Wifi calling when over seas

o2 are using just calling at present and making sure it's right,  but you can use Wifi calling when overseas.

i was hoping that o2 wifi calling and SMS would replace the TU go app all together.

Use iPhone XS Max dual sim, SE, Honor 10, IPad Pro 11, Apple Watch 4 LTE, 100+ Mpbs Barrier and a Record Player.

Mate, you can't use it overseas accotding to their help pages.

Can I use Wifi and 4G Calling to make calls abroad?

No, but you can use O2 Travel to make cheaper calls while you’re abroad. If you’re an O2 Business customer you can use O2 Travel in Europe or our Rest Of World 24 Hour Pass to stay connected while you’re away.
