The O2 4G signal showing on my Netgear Nighthawk router through O2 varies between 1 and 2 bars only. This is not good. Is this connected somehow to the 3G switch off?

Where was the SIM-swap advice in this "first reply"? Feel free to highlight it. Your second reply quotes a different thread from a different user.

To keep this post on-topic, the vast majority of "my phone isn't working" type posts can be narrowed down by a few methodical steps. Jumping straight to a SIM-swap does seem a bit of a favourite on these boards, and in many cases there's little-to-no posted evidence that it's the solution.

As already stated, the guide I posted in the first reply covers the methodical steps.

That's why we have guides, written by established, experienced members, to assist with the various issues we see here on a regular basis.

Regulars here will also know that a sim swap does fix a multitude of issues and there's a lot of evidence of this.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.
Please select the post that helped you best and mark as the solution. This helps other members in resolving their issues faster. Thank you.

If possible call into an O2 store with photo ID

They will swap the sim card for you free of charge

Also try your sim in another phone to pinpoint if it's an account or phone issue

It will always fix an issue where the SIM is the cause. It won't fix it when the SIM is not at fault. I would assume no sensible person would suggest otherwise.

FAQs on fora are always a wise idea, I've authored a few. Perhaps regular users should just provide links, without adding additional comment - if this is the defence to anyone who questions it.

Anyhow, these replies aren't helping the OP - but will potentially be frightening them away.
