I've just spoken to "Becky" and she tells me my discount will be applied from the day before my billing date which for me is the 17th.... She did say to call back if there were any problems but it should be applied automatically - Thank you O2
Let us know if it does. My billing date is the 20th so you'll know before me

Hello, I was quite excited to read that "[existing] 3G contracts can now jump seamlessly over to 4G", as it's been something I've wanted to do for a while.
The 3G signal where I work in the centre of Glasgow is really unstable and bounces down to Edge constantly making it impossible to use internet services. I'd seen that I could upgrade previously through MyO2 but to stay on 2GB I'd have to pay an extra £5. For the same price of £22 my data allowance would drop from 2GB to 1GB (odd thing if I went for that it would let me add a 5GB bolt on for a fiver giving me 3GB more for the same price of the £27 tariff).
Anyway I didn't want to pay more or take a cut in my data so I left it and put up with the terrible connection. With yesterday's news release, I thought I'd ask on O2 Chat what the deal was and if I could have 4G please. After a slightly frustrating hour and a half speaking to two advisors the short answer is "No I can't... Yet".
After a lot of to-ing and fro-ing with them saying it can't be done I was offered 4G for 3 months as a Goodwill gesture for free (even though I could do that anyway through the upgrade process and cancel before the 90 days getting a £15 credit). I pushed to try to understand why I couldn't be switched across to 4G without paying more or losing data allowance when the communication said that existing customers can switch "seamlessly", which to me implied there would be no penalty. I finally did get confirmation that the current offer is for existing customers however it's not ready yet and O2 are in the process of sorting it out.
From my conversation with the advisor:

Hi
When I got my 5S on a business contract, i was reassured twice that i would be able to upgrade to 4G at any time. Business customers have to pay £9 pm more for 4G rather than £5 on personal, and i honestly could not justify that. So when the prices fall, and they will in time, I would jump on board.
Did not get this written in blood, but time will tell. Not bothered though as i hardly use the phone away from wifi, hence could not justinfy the £9 increase.

Wierd @johnelf1 in myo2 business it confirms that when we upgraded to our 5s inc vat was £5 for 4g access plus another £5 for increasing to the 5gb max (for 8GB promotional) On the on and on tariff. (total paid £39.17 +vat)
Were you looking to do it on a shared tariff? or single tariff?
On shared tariffs it was not the £5 (like consumer and on and on business)to have 4g access but a change in ammount for data.
And just checked myo2 business and my £4.17 (£5 inc vat ) has been removed as of yesterday for 4g access so monthly tariff now £35 +vat £42 with 8gb data
