Unlocking a phone

Can anyone tell me why O2 charge £15 to unlock a phone, when I have been loyal to this network for 20 years and am only leaving because their charges are now far in excess of other providers?  I'm told there is no e-mail facilities to contact customer services, is this indeed true?  Any assistance would be gratefully received.

CS is on 202 from your contract mobile and unlocking is free for contract phones.
The charge only applies to PAYG but if you can borrow a contract sim to use in a PAYG phone it will also be free.

Edit: You can't use email to contact CS due to having to pass security checks to discuss account issues.

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Currently using:
Pixel 7a (O2 & Lyca), One Plus 6 (Sfr), iPhone 12 Pro Max (Vodafone)

Most networks charge for contract phones to be unlocked too, except Three (not locked) and O2.

Loyalty is non existent these days, it's a fair deal for everyone, new & existing customers, you just have to go with what's right for you

Why do people insist on wanting to do everything by email these days?

Whilst a customer of 20 years is admirable, the fact is you are on payg and as such there is a charge. Sorry but that is the way it is.

I assume your handset is definitely locked to o2?
