i UPGRADED FROM O2 TO ANOTHER O2, NEW ONE WORKING OK, APART FROM WHEN GOOGLE SENT ME A MESSAGE IT WAS SENT TO MY OLD PHONE WHICH SHOULD BE SWITCHED OFF, ANY IDEAS

Have you tried your old sim in your  new phone?

If so use that.

Or you could try activating your new sim. https://www.o2.co.uk/help/phones-sims-and-devices/activating-your-sim

Was it to an account that is still on the old phone (such as email, or hangouts)?

spoke with O2 today it was O2 technical problem they said and passed it to their other department as they still had my old phone connected somehow, as its a different phone make it has a new card, but thank you to all for your advice. O2 were surprised it had happened

Thanks, it is an O2 technical issue with the old phone still connected. O2 dealing with it, different type of phone so has a new card.
