I am setting up a new phone at home and trying to transfer the number but repeatedly fails

Need more information on this. Are you talking landline or mobile?

If mobile have you applied to have your number migrated or ported to your new phone?

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

If you have a physical sim, just put it in your new phone.

If you are trying to transfer an esim, you can't, as you need to go in store, with photo ID to get a new one.

Because of these issues, we always advise a physical sim.
