I've decided to try O2's 4g service and clicked on the link to use the online 4g checking service. It went through some checks and was happy that my phone (xperia z) was compatible but that i needed a 4g sim.

that was inserted and enabled today.

However when i go back to the set up checker and click to confirm my phone, all I get is a web page saying Oops something has gone wrong, click to go back to the homepage or try later.

Has anyone else had this issue? Is the 4g setup part of O2 down?? I've been trying all day to get past this stage.

well today i've tried and yeah success. then i saw the 4g tariff options. I'll end up paying another £10 per month. what do i get extra, unlimitec minutes - I don't use up my current 600 mins!

unlimited texts- no difference!!

1 gig of data- i get 750mb and because of wifi i don't use that!!!

So after all, is it really worth it for faster downloads to pay £10 a month for the privilege. For me I'm thinking thanks but no thanks. I'll stick with 3g and the numerous wifi services available. I've survived quite nicely up to now. Bit of a money making con by O2

It's inevitable that the new 4G tariffs and included allowances are not for everyone.

If your current allowances and usage pattern matches your needs and you have a stable 3g connection ,then it makes sense to stay on what your current tariff gives.

I don't think it's a con.

They are offering a faster data service and if you sign up before the 31st of October 2013 you get extra data in the bundle.

Very silly comment, are they to be condemned for improving their network which they have to do in order to compete?

How is it a con when you have the choice of whether to take 4G or not?

Many will take this up as they can make use of the data and the speed being offered and I suspect you're annoyed because it's not free!

Working for me to now but it seems yet again that long-term existing loyal customers are getting a poor deal compared to new customers. It works out cheaper for me to be a new customer that be an existing customer and transfer to a 4G tariff. slight_frown

Working for me now as well, except instead of offering me a 4G "tariff" as such it's offering me a 4G bolt on, which will let me use my existing data and minutes over 4G for £5pm. As mentioned by others, if this is the only route for existing customers it's a shame we don't get the promotional additional data that new subscribers get, I'm not sure it's worth it for me...

The reason it is not working is because

No upgrades become eligible until at least 24 hours after changing your sim card. wait 1 day then the set up assistant should recognise it again.

If you log in to Myo2 on a computer (not a phone) it explains that you cant upgrade because you recently changed your sim card and to wait 24 hours.
