I am currently on a pay as you go contract but wish ti go Sim only while retain my number

Easiest way is to pop into your local o2 store or give customer service a call http://www.o2.co.uk/contactus
They will transfer you over after a quick credit check and retain your number for you.
You can also transfer any credit you have over too upto £350
