Why am I being charged for last month

I have received my bill today stating that a payment will be made in 15 days, however when I took out my contract I paid for a month in advance so I shouldn't be paying for the last month .

Your contract does not end automatically.

It will continue on a rolling 30 day basis until cancelled Guide: Cancelling Your Contract

Can I ask if this was a brand new contract?
New number... or porting in from another network?
I should be able to help you understand a bit better knowing this.
