Someone I know is going away to Gran Canaria and I was wondering if it would cost me to text them while they are over there? Thanks.

It's free or from your allowances to text another UK mobile anywhere in the world.

A UK number is free to call or text anywhere in the world. IF any roaming charges are applied, they go on the receivers account, not the sender's.

You can call people in the EU as long as they are registered with a UK network.  Ie you are calling a friend in Spain but their network is Vodafone in the Uk, this is classed as a normal call to you as you are not ringing a foreign number
