Can not get a monthly sim deal!!!

Anonymous
Not applicable
Daughter went into O2 shop
Today to get the £20 pay monthly sim only deal, had all ID and has good credit. On computer when adding her details, the rep kept saying computer was not recognising her driving license number?? After lots of confusion they said they could not give her sim and nothing they could do. I then tried as my credit score is very high. It refused me too. I then tried online and was given a cryptic message saying something about commercial checks and because of this they cannot give me a reason why i was refused, because clearly it is not my credit!!! I am now thinking his is a total scam and that maybe they can only give so many of sims out in this deal so just refuse people who are eligible without reason. I will be contacting the ombudsman and consumer looking into my consumer rights as I am pretty sure this is not right.

As customers here like yourself, no one can possibly know why the refusal or if there are any sanctions in place.
However, you correct process for complaining is here https://www.o2.co.uk/how-to-complain which needs following first before taking any other action.

Hi @Anonymous You can complain to o2 but the ombudsman won’t be interested in one single complaint especially if you don’t get a response from o2 first

All pretty annoying though when O2 don't appear to have a credible credit score checking system in place. We have seen from others posting that large contracts have been given out to candidates who appear to be unsuitable...

As said, we would have no idea why you were refused @Anonymous though you can try the complaints route as suggested. Or try another network ....

Possibly for your refusal after the initial system error it could have been too many credit checks in a short period of time.

It's certainly not a scam. Try online for your daughter or call customer service.

Hi @Anonymous! Sorry to hear about the trouble you've been having with this. 😞 You could also try contact the Credit Referrals team at O2 (creditfilereferrals@O2.com) in case they can help shed any light on this for you. You should get an auto response with a timescale for them to be in touch regarding your issue.
