4g speed

Anonymous
Not applicable

I've just upgraded to a nice new Sony Z2 with a 4g contract. I've done a few speed tests in London and I'm a bit disappointed with the results. The max speed I've seen is 12mbps download and 1.2mbps upload. Those look like 3g speeds to me.

How do I know whether I'm actually getting 4g, and what speeds should I expect to see? I would expect to get at least 20mbps download and 10mbps upload minimum in a good 4g area...

That would explain things. They stopped issuing 3G sims at the advent of 4G

It all depends on how busy the mast is you are connected to and if any traffic management is in force at the time.
You should also see a "4G" at the top of your screen where you would normally see 3G or H etc......

Well I normally see an 'H'. Sometimes I see an 'H+', which I am assuming is 4g...

I'm not sure what I should see on a Sony Z2.

H or H+ is 3G. It will show 4G or LTE when on 4G speeds.

My Xperia SP shows 4G.

Check in network settings that you have 4g enabled.
Settings >More >Mobile Networks >Network Mode - Set to LTE preferred.

Did you enable 4g when you got your phone / sim. Not everyone has had to from comments on here but I know I had to.

Hi

I attain around 50mbps and show 4G in my iPhone 5s status bar.

Be aware running speeds tests can eat up approx 40mb of your data allowance each time.

Check in your myo2 that your tariff reflects a 4g tariff and that your in a 4g area.

http://www.o2.co.uk/4g/coverage-and-cities

Lastly ring O2 on 202 to have your account checked.

Yes, I'm on a 4g tariff and yes, I'm in central London with good 4g coverage.

Next step is to call 202 I think 😞

Are you sure I should see 4g in the notification bar on a Z2 rather than H+?
