Going to South Africa next year, will I be able to use my own sim card there, and will there be any extra charges for calling local numbers there?

There certainly will, why not get your phone unlocked and use a local sim?

Their will be roaming charges if you use your O2 sim.

Think about unlocking your phone and using a local SIM card.

Sorry here is the unlocking link https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset%20Unlocking%20Form

It's free to contract customers and £15 to payg.
