I was on a cruise to the med. and my bill shows I was charged £23.189 for 3.87mb. The only ports were in Spain and Portugal so why have I been charged when data is free. The bill shows the charge for one day only with the other days free.

I am told it may be that the signal was briefly picked up by a non EU country but I was at sea, miles from any coast.

@NickoDid you ever turn your phone on when you were on the ship?

If not you may not have been far enough away from the ship when you disembarked and turned it on.

We're just customers like you but it sounds as if you need someone to access your account which can't be done from here

Give O2 a call on 202 or 0344 809 0202 (Contract) OR 4445 or 0344 809 222 (PAYG)

Or you can message O2 on Facebook ( https://o2uk.co/O2CFB) , Twitter ( https://o2uk.co/O2CTW) or Instagram ( https://o2uk.co/O2CIG), hopefully they should be able to help.

If you were a long way from the coast you may well have connected to the ship's network

I always advise people to leave phones off unless in port

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

Cruise ship usage and charges explained here Guide: Cruise Liners / Aircraft Charges

I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

I contacted 02 and it seems I had my data on and via the ship's mast, it connected to Marocco for a few seconds. They were very helpful and explained how it could happen, even though miles off shore and were good enough to sort it for me.

Many thanks for your help/advice.
