Hey everybody,

With our previous commitment to rolling out 4G in more-and-more locations, coupled with our recent spectrum acquisition and rapid roll-out of it, we're going to use this thread to announce new locations where 4G has gone live so you can keep up-to-date on the latest roll-out news. We'll update this thread each week (usually Fridays) with new location announcements.

This weeks announcement?
Rollout continues throughout December, though no locations have been announced on Social Media. We'll look to start these up again in early 2019.

Previous announcements

December

More info
Though our 4G rollouts continued in December, we've not made any location announcements via Social Media. After our network outage in early December, our sole focus was in getting our network back up and running for all customers, and then monitoring our network closely to ensure maximum performance and reliability.

We'll work on new plans to announce locations early in the new year. See you then!

Other locations:
As we have over 17,000 locations across the UK with 4G coverage, it's not feasible to list them all in this thread. We've included new locations we've 'switched on' since the start of 2018, and will update this list weekly.

Coverage: If you'd like to check coverage levels in other locations not mentioned in this thread, you can use our coverage checker here. If you're in a location that doesn't yet have 4G, we are bringing 4G to more and more locations - so we hope you'll see the benefit of our network & spectrum investments in the near future.

Network issues: Unfortunately unforeseen faults and issues can happen, but when they do, our network teams look to resolve these as a priority for our customers. If you're experiencing issues where you normally have good coverage and signal, you can check service status updates here. You can also check out our self help guide here which may help resolve your issue, and we have a video here that may help you resolve any issues you may have.

O2 are really poor at the moment with keeping up with the network and giving up 98% indoor and outdoor they need to get with the times

Certainly does seem to be that any news re the 2300MHz rollout has died a death. Am sure they’ll get there in the end, just a shame o2 are being left flailing in the dust of EE and VF at the moment. 😑

Hmmmm...indeed !

I was getting personal tweets at one stage with a virtual running commentary on the great ‘switch on’ for 2300mhz back in April. And now what?

Precisely...NOTHING.

Anybody would have thought we’d have heard of the instant relief to the congestion in Manchester but so far there’s nothing !

Come on O2, we need to know !

You might well be further down the list in Manchester am afraid... it's a Vodafone controlled area, so very dependent on VF managed schedules, although now both operators have decent amounts of spectrum to deploy, (o2 with the new 2300MHz and VF with their existing 2600MHz) things might start to move more quickly as now neither has a reason to try and hobble the other in their host territories.

Looks as though Leicester is starting to get o2 2300MHZ though... so perhaps the footprint is starting to emerge outside of London?

No, it is actually there.

But unlike EE and Vodafone O2 are playing their cards very close to their chests so nobody outside O2 really knows what’s happening next.

I follow several network enthusiasts on Twitter including the amazing Peter Clarke @pedroclarke1who knows more about networks than the networks know. I also follow the Vodafone’s head of network planning in London and the South East @ Ker Anderson;..Ker in particular is perfectly happy to state where Vodafone are improving coverage in his area especially in traditional black spots like Bromley where several fights with SNIMBYS  (Super NIMBYS) have been won and progress is being made. O2 have a presence in the form of Chris Gillmore @ChrisGillmore89 who is excellent but its essentially just Chris vs several sources for EE and Vodafone.

So come on O2...its all very nice having the basics like ‘We now got 4G coverage in Ditton Priors’ but many of us here are thirsty for knowledge about O2’s network ,when exactly 2300mHz is coming on

to places other than London and how and when for example the congestion is going to be relieved in Manchester.

A cellular phone company lives or dies on the strength of coverage and capacity  of its network.
