When I can’t get 5G it defaults to 3G

I have an iPhone 14 pro with a 5G contract. Obviously 5G is still pretty spotty, but when I can’t get 5G signal my phone defaults to 3G without ever hitting 4G which basically means I’m regularly without internet. Is there a way to get my phone/sim to recognise 4G?

Thanks in advance!

If tips here do not help in any location, @Emma00 then you may need to swap your SIM: https://www.helpforsmartphone.com/public/en/apple/iphone-14-pro/ios-16/guides/24/Switch-between-3G-4...

It is possible that work is ongoing in your area, check if O2 4G coverage is affected, tips in how to do that in here - Guide: How can I sort out my network issues?

Good luck.

Thanks for this! I have tried that but it still just drops down to 3G instead of hanging out on 4G. It’s so weird and frustrating!

@Emma00

It might be worth contacting Apple, as it could be a phone fault.

Have you tried a Network Settings Reset?

Can you also check the network settings to make sure its not set to 4G/3G but to 5G/4G?

Thanks for this! I’ve tried both of those things. But yeah, perhaps I’ll need to reach out to apple. Thanks again!
