One of the Google News sites has picked this issue up and someone has logged a bug report with Google. all reported within the past few days...

Its affecting Pixel Devices, OnePlus, LG, Samsung, Motorola and Sony...

The fix for the SMS issue it to go into the Google App Store and check for updates and there is an update from yesterday evening for Carrier Services, update this and then restart your device and the SMS should start working again..
My Razr 5G updated this morning to the latest version...

Luckily no problems with my Note 8 or husbands S7+. Also had a text from grandson with a Note 10. So it's a bit selective @madasaf1sh
