Since joining O2 as part of Virgin contract I have had issues with trying to keep my old number which on part works although my calls receiver sees new number???
additionally when I leave home I lose internet
never happened whilst with Virgin
really hard to talk to a human at O2

You should be able to change the number within the phones settings.
Have a look at your settings in the APN and make sure it is using mobile.o2.co.uk and doesn't still have the VM APN details.
o2 can be contacted by 202 from your o2 phone or 0344 809 0202 or send them a message on Facebook (https://o2uk.co/O2CFB) , Twitter (https://o2uk.co/O2CTW) or Instagram (https://o2uk.co/O2CIG)
