Pay monthly can access that info by following this guide Guide: How do I get to the 'Download Bill' page? 

If you are PAYG you can only view phone logs.

I think that would only work for last months history - however I want to see phone calls made to my phone today as I’m trying to find a specific number

Today's calls should show under one of the links in the left hand pane, recents maybe?

Only your phone log will see incoming calls
O2 can't provide you with this information, they can only show outgoing calls on bills or any personal data they hold
