What proof of identity do I need to get a Pay monthly contract?
I'm buying online or over the phone

We can accept your credit or debit card as proof of your identity.

I'm buying in store I have a Chip and PIN credit or debit card

Whichever network you're signing up to, we can accept a valid Chip and PIN credit or debit card as proof of your signature and address.

  • You must know your card's PIN.
  • Your card's billing address must be the same as your pay monthly contract billing address.
  • Depending on what you're buying, you might not have to pay using the Chip and PIN card you used as proof of identity. Ask in store for more details.
I don't have a Chip and PIN credit or debit card
  • We can only sign you up to a network, if you have a Chip and PIN card to prove your identity.

What do I need to bring to sign up?

    • You'll need to give us separate proofs of your signature and address - you can't use the same document for both.
    • We can only accept original copies.
    • Proofs of address must be less than three months old.
Proof of signature

You'll need to provide one of the following:

  • UK driver's licence (if you don't use it as proof of your address)
  • Valid UK or Irish passport (it must be signed and must not have expired)
  • Firearms certificate (if you don't use it as proof of your address)
Proof of address

You'll need to provide one of the following:

  • Full UK driver's licence (if you don't use it as proof of your signature)
  • Utility bill (a gas, electricity, water or home phone bill - we can't accept British Gas bills or mobile phone bills)
  • Bank, building society or credit card statement
  • Firearms certificate (if you don't use it as proof of your signature)
  • Council tax bill

Did you go instore initially or apply online? If it was instore I am surprised they didnt tell you there what other ID you required @Anonymous

You will also need proof of address and normally a utility bill (instore)

@Anonymous  If you do not have a credit or debit card to qualify for an online purchase, or cannot provide proof of signature and proof of address to purchase in store as outlined above, you might need to rethink your plans. You will find that all the networks have the same requirements, so you might want to think about Pay & Go instead.
