I received a taxt from o2 informing me that calls to channel islands mobiles will not be included in "free minutes" from 4th december. As one of my sons lives there, this will leave me with a real problem !

I wonder if this has to do with the Ofcom ruling about fixed contracts? Looks like O2 are trying to do this before the rule comes into effect.

I am in the middle of a 2-year contract with the Unlimited calls, texts and 1Gb data. At the time I took it out, calls to Jersey landlines and mobiles were inclusive. This was a significant part of me taking the contract because I have several relatives in Jersey.

Now I have got the text saying that the landlines are going to be billable at 35p/minute. In my opinion this is a Material Change to the terms of the contract and I will be looking at my options to cancel the contract and find another provider.

But new contracts have had these excluded http://www.o2.co.uk/termsandconditions/mobile/our-latest-pay-monthly-tariff-terms since 30/03/2012

I guess this could be chalenged for contracts before the date above

I just don't understand how I've had these texts and minutes included for the past month with my brand new contract and they've now decided to change, when I specifically asked if they would be included as the vast majority of calls I make are to family back in Jersey!  If they'd done this a month earlier, I wouldn't have signed for two years!

If you see this as a significant change to the terms of your contract, make a formal complaint and ask to be released from it:

If O2 don't agree with you the Ombudsman may well do.

Those terms and conditions say inclusive minutes can't be used for 07 numbers in Channel Islands I can't see where it says about landlines?

Hi chredo, Thanks for posting your thoughts and I shall pass them back to the team, I have retrieved some more info on the change below:

O2 removed these number types from our inclusive bundles as these are not standard domestic calls and telecoms providers are applying higher costs to us. It is no longer sustainable for us to absorb these charges.

Customers who are regular callers to Jersey/Guernsey and Isle of Man can buy International Extras Bolt On, and get 30 minutes of calls for £5 or 70 minutes for £10.

We are the last network to remove these ranges from inclusive minute allowances. More info here: http://www.o2.co.uk/support/generalhelp/howdoi/specialnumbers

We have been clear in our terms and conditions that call charges to Jersey, Guernsey and IoM are excluded in our bundles.

For some time we have included them for customers, and this has been great value for our customers. However telecoms providers are now applying higher costs to us when routing these calls and unfortunately it is no longer sustainable for us to absorb these charges.
