Sim Card only upgrade

Hi, I have upgraded my sim only contract, and the instructions say to back up all my photos, emails ect. before inserting my new sim card. why do i have to do this, will it be a different number?Ruth

I just got a text message saying o2 was unable to take payment for my next bill but when I log in the payment is set up correctly (I didn't use the link in the text message). Anyone else had this?
