What's Giff Gaff all about?

I am currently on O2 PAYG. I pay £15 per month on the Pay and Go Go Go tariff for unlimited texts, 150 minutes of calls and 1GB of data.
A few of my friends are on Giff Gaff and they say that they pay less. When I explain that I don't want to move from O2, they say that Giff Gaff do O2.
Can someone please explain to me what Giff Gaff is? Do they do PAYG? How can they offer cheaper tariffs and better deals on O2 than O2 themselves.
All advice would be much appreciated.

Look on their home website for their breakdown.

The £12 offers unlimited 3G data too.

They are a virtual network which is owned by o2 and runs off their masts.

You cannot tether on certain goodygags. Ie unlimited data ones.

4g is now available but not in unlimited.

Your phone will also accept a Giffgaff sim without having to unlock it.

They do not offer customer service telephone support. It's all online.

They have a similar reward structure to 02 where you earn as you top up called Payback.

I'd say order a free sim and give it a go.

All true except this bit...

You earn Payback points for helping out in the community and by completing some other online tasks.

You also get points for introducing friends when they activate one of "your" sim cards.

The points are accumulated for a 6 month period and converted into money which can be claimed every June & December (twice per year only).

Gemma they also have their own community forum too for assistance. I find them very friendly there also.

Remember you can PAC over to them too to retain your mobile number !

To be honest Damien when I've chatted on their forum every question has been answered.

I've not had to contact an agent about any account issues tho.

My daughter has and they are pretty quick.

Most of the time Agents can resolve matters that you would normally ring CS with on O2, however both my OH and my Sister have had to escalate matters to a Manager level due to insufficient training of agents.

In the majority of cases other users are able to resolve queries though as on here.:smileyhappy:

Is it basically the same as O2 then?
I am on the fence about whether to go over to Giff gaff.
