i can upgrade to a new device in 6 days, will i still get any decive for free , like they said when i set up my account

No phones are free.

You have a device plan and and an airtime plan.

Some phones have an upfront cost too so you should check in the shop pages https://www.o2.co.uk/shop

When O2 say free upgrade, they mean that you don't have to pay to upgrade, but you still need to pay for phone and airtime.

i know that but i got told that i can get any device for free and then just pay the monthly price is that true or do i have to pay an upfront cost as well??

With custom plans you can remove the upfront cost from most of the phones.
