  • Swipe left to access more apps.
  • 2. Touch Settings.
  • 3. Touch More…
  • 4. Touch Tethering & portable hotspot.
  • 5. Touch Configure Wi-Fi hotspot.
  • 6. Touch Network SSID.
  • 7. Delete the existing text and enter a name for your hotspot.
  • 8. Touch Next.
  • 9. Delete the existing text and enter a password for your hotspot.
  • 10. Touch Done.
  • 11. Touch Save.
  • 12. Touch Portable Wi-Fi hotspot.
  • 13. The portable Wi-Fi hotspot is now active. Other devices can connect to it using your network name (step 7) and password (step 9).

Bear in mind the SSID and password will be case sensitive.

On the laptop where the signal bar is i assume '!' is there.

Click on that and see if a repair will do something.

When you have established the connection with your PC to phone click on the wifi hotspot connection on the phone and allow "authorised devices" or "all devices". If choosing "authorised" you will have to allow the connection to your PC.

I would say it's insufficient data or a firewall restriction on the pc.

Thanks to all those who tried to help on this. Here's an update.

I'm running a duel boot system Win XP Home Edition & Win 7 Home Premium Edition.

All the problems were with Win 7 as when I boot into Win XP everything works fine.

Done lots of searching and found other folks having probs with win 7 whilst trying to tether but been unable to find a fix to the problem to date.

So all these pages of questions and answers and you didn't think of telling us that! Smiley Mad

It points you straight at the PC as the problem.
