O2 Switch Up

Hi All,

I took our an O2 switch up plan a while ago (pre Aug 23) and switched up my phone to the 15 Pro on release day but wish I'd gone for another colour. Any ideas if I am able to switch up again or would I now need to wait the 90 days.

I can see that the Ts & C's were changed but can't work out if my switch up plan is classed as pre Aug 23 or if it would just start again when I got the new phone meaning it would be after Aug 23 and subject to the 90 day wait time before switching up again.

This makes sense! I didn't even think about people abusing it for all the offers, I've only ever gone to O2 for a phone and not thought about the extras! I might go in there at the weekend and ask, if not I'll wait it out until December to avoid the fuss. 😃

I know what you mean, but are customers really "abusing" or "exploiting" the offers ?

Surely, taking advantage of an offer within its T&Cs is perfectly legitimate and is just a way of reducing your costs ?

Are you sure about this? I thought that when you switch up' it's essentially re-contracting so you end up signing the new T&Cs?

Only if you either had a bolt on or joined switch up after Aug 3rd.

Plus plans taken before that are still on original terms, no matter what.

Interesting!

I've recently switched both my handsets and was told I would now have to wait 90 days if I wanted to switch handsets again. Line 1 is on a Plus Plan and line 2 originally had the add-on but now is on a plus plan.

I'll be interested to see what happens in Jan if the S24U is launched early and I try to pre-order in January.

That's the confusion in stores which results in many being refused when they shouldn't be.

This has been confirmed by O2 on this thread should you need it for ammo.

It is abuse of the system, as Switch Up was never designed to be used to get every offer and freebie, in some industries this is called "Bonus Abuse", and unfortunately the minority spoil it for the majority of customers.

And from talking to one store, some people where going back in every 2 or 3 weeks to get a new phone.. It might be in the t&c's but isnt in the spirit of the t&c's.. And hence o2 have changed the rules...

That's fair comment. I am surprised that those using Switch Up qualified for such bonuses and freebies, and it does seem unreasonable to abuse the system in that way. And matters are made worse that there are certain websites that will publicise and almost encourage such practices.

I just get the feeling that with the changes that O2 have made, they have solved one problem but created another.

Sorry to jump on this thread but I maybe in the same boat.
I moved onto a plus plan 4/2/23 when getting my 14 PM changing from the 13 PM.

Since then I’ve used switch up to move to the 15 PM and more recently to change to the 15 Plus- does this mean I should be on the original terms too and can use this anytime? If so how do I contact someone to get the store to let me use this to change back to the 15 PM (mistake in changing to the Plus). Also turns out would be cheaper than my original 15 PM deal.

Any help greatly appreciated. Don’t want to embarrass myself in the shop again.
