Notifying O2 if I cancel my contract

When the minimum term of my contract ends (after 2 years), do I need to tell O2 or can I just cancel my standing order/direct debit

O2 have just hung up on me, after cancelling contract when I asked for clarification and PAC code. I won’t be using O2 again and others will learn of my experience
