I live in Manchester (fairly near the airport) and for a day now haven't been able to use the phone as a phone. I get "searching" and "No signal" and "Call Failed" if I try to ring out anyway. This isn't the first time this has happened - the service generally eventually comes back. But O2's service report says it's fine, they're not doing any work. I drove into the city centre last night and still couldn't get a signal. As this is my only phone and my mother is not on the internet there's no way I can contact her. It really annoys me. Why on earth does it usually work fine and then have these days off? It's not a within a building problem - it's an everywhere problem. Has anyone any advice? Obviously I cannot phone O2.

This could be a handset / sim issue as you say it is everywhere.
Try removing and cleaning the sim and reboot / restart the phone.
If that failks get a new sim from o2 and use the swap my sim form or let them do it in store for you.
If that fails get the handset looked at if in warranty.

Hi Rachel and welcome,
Try your sim in an alternative phone if you can to see if signal returns.
Or another o2 sim in your phone to rule out the phone and sim card.
Also try removing your sim card and wiping it down to remove static build up.
Possibly changing your sim can help just incase your sim has gone faulty.
Picking up a blank sim from an 02 store or contact them to have one posted out or ring customer services if you have a 02 powered phone that does work, or ring them via landline.
It takes from a few minutes to 24 hours for the service to fully return.
All you do is text SWAP to 20220 to via http://swapmysim.o2.co.uk/
Only do this when you have got the correct sized blank sim card and the correct one for your account type. Contract or Payg.
Contract Customers.
From your O2 mobile 202 Free
From a landline 0844 809 0202 5p / min
PAYG Customers.
From your O2 mobile 4445 25p per call
From a landline 0844 809 0222 5p / min
Or via Live Chat http://www.o2.co.uk/mobile/contactus
Ring Customer Service too just to ensure your account is ok.
Ask people around you who are also on o2 to see if they are having issues. If so then you can challenge the mast results.
Sometimes going into your settings and looking for a feature to reset your network settings can help or a soft reset of your phone.
A hard reset is a last resort but can help but as this wipes your data do make a back up.
Final route is that possibly your phone has picked up a fault so go through the manufacturers support/repair route by contacting them or last resort use o2's repair services.
Hope all goes ok for you.
