Can you leave o2 tariff but keep the contract for your phone until the phone is paid

So I will have to wait until my phone is paid 1st before I can leave ?

Either wait until it's paid off monthly or just pay it all off in one go and then you are free to leave and keep the device to use with a sim from another network.
