O2 have offered to pay the rest of my contract and I can upgrade early and want to keep my old phone

@Claire24 If the better offer is with another network, then you will lose your O2. The choice has to be yours.

How early are you upgrading? I'm sure this is what happened with me last time. I really want a new phone now but not due until October. Not sure if they would pay off my contract just yet.
