My contract is ending, I want to upgrade from a monthly contract with a phone to just sim only.

Is this possible and will I be able to keep the same phone number?

Yes you will. When your upgrade options show in My O2 like so

upgrade sim only.PNG

You will keep the same number as everything is changed on the system.

Yes. Its more or less a tariff change. Login to myo2 and select upgrade then select sim only instead of handset. You then continue to use same sim on new simo tariff.

The options I’ve been given online under ‘Your upgrade options’ are
‘Packages for you’ and ‘More devices”. Nothing to do with sim only.

If I want to change to a SIM contract thats cheaper than my current monthly contract, would I need to change my number?

No, if you upgrade, you would keep your number

Your option to upgrade to sim only won't appear until you reach the minimum term of your contract, ie, your upgrade date.
