Can send MMS but not receive them...

Hi,

I recently bought a Samsung Galaxy Core Prime.

I'm on PAYG Text and Web tariff.

I don't keep my mobile data on constantly because I rarely use my 'phone for the net and if I do, I use wifi.

I know in order to send or receive MMS I need to switch it on.

I switch it on and it sends MMS no problem.

However if I receive MMS I then have to turn it on and press download. The download bar flashes and I get the "G" appear next to my mobile data symbol but it fails to download.

I've checked settings and all appear correct.

Why can I send but not receive MMS?

Please help because other than this I am very happy with this 'phone.

Thank you.

One other point of note is that turning on data to receive an MMS after a notification has been received may also result in a fail.
For testing purposes, turn data on and then ask someone to send to you or send one to yourself.

True that ^^^^^^

As i discovered a few years ago when my son was trying to send me a picture...I just saw downloading and it stuck.

After any settings or re settings,  it's best to reboot the phone and send yourself an mms, bearing in mind the ridiculous cost involved....

Thanks for all suggestions.

A couple of weeks ago I had data switched on and my friend sent me an MMS but it still wouldn't download.

Right, I've been out and tried to download the MMS in 2 different locations. Both failed.

However, it was different from before. Both times instead of the G, I got an H. Also it failed pretty much immediately after I pressed download. Whereas at home I get the G and then it tries to download for approximately 2 minutes before it says failed.

I've not tried sending one to myself just yet because I'll need to top up before that as I have a Bolt On due to come out soon.

i just can't work out how I can send MMS from home, so the signal must be sufficient for that, but I'm unable to receive?

I appreciate all your help.

Thank you.

According to the link I provided in my first post it should read as follows

MMS

Press the Menu key and select New APN

Name : O2 UK Pay Monthly MMS (PAYG - O2 UK Pay & Go MMS)
APN : wap.o2.co.uk
Proxy : Not set
Port : Not Set
Username : o2wap
Password : password
Server : Not set
MMSC : http://mmsc.mms.o2.co.uk:8002
MMS Proxy :  82.132.254.1
MMS port : 8080
MCC : 234
MNC : 10
Authentication : PAP
APN type : mms
APN protocol : ipv4

Press the Home key to return to your home screen.

You should then be all set up.

Reboot the phone and try sending yourself a photo.

Hi Cleoriff,

I have previously input those settings manually just last week but my 'phone does not allow me to select it as an access point. It shows in my access point names but there is no "circle" for me to click on to select it.

I can only select:

O2 pay and go

O2 prepay GPRS (I have this listed twice because I installed it again from a link O2 sent in the hope of rectifying this problem) - this option is currently selected.

Tesc Mobile

Giffgaff

Then 2 I am unable to select are:

O2 prepay GPRS (yes another one!)

O2 UK MMS (which as previously stated I input manually to try and sort the problem)

Thanks for your help.

MI5 - you are a star!!! grin

It worked.

Thank you so very much.

It took about 2 to 3 minutes to download and I had an E showing this time instead of a G but it worked and at home too!

Still not managed to download the second MMS yet but now it's worked on one I'm sure it will download once the signal is right.

Brilliant.

Thanks again and also to everyone with all your suggestions.

I do have another question but I shall leave that for another day! wink

Have a great weekend.
