A flood of Nuisance Calls from random Non-UK numbers

Hello

I've moved to O2 from TescoMobile on 12-Aug and ported my old number across (now completed sucessfully).

Since moving to O2, I'm receiving dozens of nuisance calls from non-UK numbers every day and throughout the night.  Usually, there is nobody responds when I answer, others speak in a foreign language and some try to sell utilitity supplies.  I'm using the same number as before but never received ANY of these calls just a couple of weeks back.  To give an idea of numbers over 1-week, I've received the following:

+40 (353) 691 59   -  (2 CALLS)
+90 (120) 101 50   -  (44 CALLS!)
+7 (274) 319-64-4   -  (2 CALLS)
+31 (0) 421 95 69   -  (2 CALLS)

I see no reason why someone in Romania, Turkey, Russia or Netherlands should be calling me, especially waking me up at 01:08, 01:11, 01:16, 01:51 and 01:53 as happened one night!

There must be a technical explanation behind why this has suddenly started happening.

Any ideas, or how I can be stopped?

A technical explanation? Not really, the only plausible one is that now that you have left the TescoMobile network they have sold your details to the highest bidder. This would explain the sudden rise in calls. I believe someone recently made the same sort of claim against O2 after leaving them for another provider so selling on ex-customers contact details may be something all the carriers do.

How it can be stopped? You have three options:

1) Turn off your phone at night or put it on silent.

2) Set these numbers to a contact on your phone and then customise their ringtone so its silent (if your phone supports this)

3) Contact O2 and change your number.

Sorry, but these really are the only solutions!

Do you get calls from the same numbers in various countries or are they all individual numbers? Google your phone number and see what comes up; perhaps you accidentally signed up for something you were/ not aware of.

Call O2 - perhaps they can make your phone unavailable somehow?

If you're on a contract:
From your mobile: 202 [free]

From a landline: 0844 809 0202 [5p per min]

If you're Pay As You Go:
From your mobile: 4445 [25p per call]

From a landline: 0844 809 0222 [5p per min]
