@tabithina T-Mobile and Sprint have not merged as of yet. It is planned, subject to government approval, but it hasn't happened yet. https://www.digitaltrends.com/mobile/how-the-t-mobile-and-sprint-merger-could-affect-customers/
So the issue you're currently having is not because of that. What may be the cause is the length of time you are using your phone in the US. You have said that you're living in the US. Unless you have some sort of special arrangement with O2, I believe roaming abroad is limited to 60 consecutive days. You would then have to return to the UK and connect to the UK network.
If you're living in the US, why are you still trying to use O2? It would only help you if you were calling or texting back to the UK a lot. Making calls within the US would be extremely expensive. Do you also have a US network sim? If so, do you have to swap sims or do you have a dual sim phone?

You need to find the network operator setting and do a manual search for available networks - what is your phone model?

@tabithina You need to be in an area where you can get a signal from AT&T or T-Mobile. Your phone will not work if Verizon and Sprint are the predominant networks.
Edit: Also, did you set up O2 Travel before you left the UK? https://www.o2.co.uk/shop/international/using-phone-abroad

You can't use O2 Travel on a permanent basis when living abroad anyway, so that wouldn't be a solution for you.
Have you tried the obvious like a new sim card or a different phone in case either of those have failed?
If T-Mobile are now using the Sprint network you may have a compatability issue with that network now so have you tried manually selecting AT&T ?

The reason I asked which phone model you had is cos some support quad-band GSM/2g at 850/900/1800/1900 MHz, quad-band 3g at 850/900/1900/2100 MHz, and dual-band CDMA EV-DO Rev. An at 800/1900 MHz, for a total of 'six' different frequencies (though at most four in a single mode). This allows the same handset work on AT&T, Verizon, and Sprint in the U.S. as well as a broad range of GSM carriers worldwide such as Movistar (O2), Vodafone, and Orange variants. And so we could guide you through manual network selection....?

This has been fully investigated by the tech team, I have always had a network connection from T-mobile while in the USA, but I think it's since T-mobile amalgamated with Sprint, I haven't had any network choice since March, the techs tried the o2Travel, and it didn't help, I live hereT

@tabithina. As @MI5 said if you live in the USA, O2 travel won't suit you, its designed for people who holiday there and would only be available for up to 2 months out of a year. If a manual network selection fails and
your phone is unlocked you might want to try a US PAYG sim initially and transfer your contacts over to that.
Other than those ideas, I would be taking the phone into one of the many mobile phone outlets and asking if they can sort out the network issues for you....Best of luck and let us know how you get on
