Hi,

I've just received a Text saying that the tariff that I'm on is going to be discontinued.  And I'm going to be transferred to one called Standard PAYG Ultra for £10 a month.  This has confused me a little. (Be patient  I'm old  slight_smile )

 The message is as follows:

"Your O2 tariff Simply Pay as you Go will soon be discontinued, so we're updating you to a new one.  Don't worry your tariff cost won't increase.  This'll happen between January - March 2025.  Your new Pay as you Go tariff will be the Standard PAYG Ultra for £10 a month, giving you 1000 mins, 3000 texts, 1GB Data & 50 MMS - you'll keep your top up for usage outside these allowances. We'll be in touch a few days before the switch.  For more info visit"

It then gives me a link.

It's just occurred to me, "you'll keep your top up for usage outside these allowances"  Is this £10 a month for the allowance when I top up ? And I don't have to pay monthly ?  It is isn't it ?

Sorry this has confused me a little as I don't use my phone very often, it's not even a smart phone.  I would just like to make sure about this.

Regards.

@RoboGramps

Yes, that's how I understand it.

For 30 days after you top up, you will get those allowances, then after 30 days, you will start using your £10.

Remember to make a chargeable call at least once every 3 months to keep sim active.

After the first month then £10 can be used to pay for calls and text at the rate advertised

https://www.o2.co.uk/help/pay-as-you-go/simply-pay-as-you-go

I would advise making a chargeable call once every three months to keep it active

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

That's great,  Thank you.

When you say make a chargeable call. I haven't done one in a while, would calls and texts coming in count ? as I'm really only using it for that at the moment. With securing texts from websites.

No, I was quite clear with make a chargeable call.

Nothing else is sufficient and obviously 0800 numbers don't count either.

As  mentioned, that does not work anymore.

O2 really would like to get rid of PAYG and will use any means to disconnect customers

I am in the same position as RoboGramps: I have only a dumbphone which I use only for a few texts and fewer calls and only top up £10 online about every two months.  Can I just ignore any future o2 texts about the tariff change to which RoboGramps refers?   Thank you.   1939er
