Hi,

I've just received a Text saying that the tariff that I'm on is going to be discontinued.  And I'm going to be transferred to one called Standard PAYG Ultra for £10 a month.  This has confused me a little. (Be patient  I'm old  slight_smile )

 The message is as follows:

"Your O2 tariff Simply Pay as you Go will soon be discontinued, so we're updating you to a new one.  Don't worry your tariff cost won't increase.  This'll happen between January - March 2025.  Your new Pay as you Go tariff will be the Standard PAYG Ultra for £10 a month, giving you 1000 mins, 3000 texts, 1GB Data & 50 MMS - you'll keep your top up for usage outside these allowances. We'll be in touch a few days before the switch.  For more info visit"

It then gives me a link.

It's just occurred to me, "you'll keep your top up for usage outside these allowances"  Is this £10 a month for the allowance when I top up ? And I don't have to pay monthly ?  It is isn't it ?

Sorry this has confused me a little as I don't use my phone very often, it's not even a smart phone.  I would just like to make sure about this.

Regards.

You can ignore the texts @1939er but it won't stop the tariff change happening.

I am in the same position as RoboGramps: I have only a dumbphone which I use only for a few texts and fewer calls and only top up £10 online about every two months.  Can I just ignore any future o2 texts about the tariff change to which RoboGramps refers?   Thank you.   1939er

No I'm afraid not @1939er

O2 will change you to this new tariff whether you like it or not.

If you don't follow the guidelines, O2 will disconnect you I'm afraid.

Depending what you use your 'phone for @RoboGramps, you might find a better deal on a Big Bundle here :-

If you don't have a smartphone, the £5.00 per month deal - with no data - might be worth considering ?

Unlikely be be more cost effective than the deal that has been offered tbh.

In fact, I can guarantee it will cost more to run it.

I got the same message as RoboGramps and also only use my phone for emergencies, so definitely don't want or need the tariff they are going to put me on. Also, do I lose the existing money I have on my unlimited plan, or do I have to request a refund? Is it legal for O2 to keep this money? Should I quickly go onto the £5 a month bundle before they move me to the £10 one. Please excuse me asking all these questions, but I'm rather elderly and don't understand. Thankyou.

@Elle1

You won't lose any credit and the tariff you are being offered is way cheaper than the £5 one.

That post is pointless apart from causing confusion.

OP has quoted :-

"Your new Pay as you Go tariff will be the Standard PAYG Ultra for £10 a month...."

I am reading that as £10 per month every month, so the Big Bundle at £5 per month is surely cheaper ?

No, it isn't £10 every month.

It's £10 to get the allowances and the £10 is retained as credit and can be used in subsequent months for use at standard rates.
