Hi,
I've just received a Text saying that the tariff that I'm on is going to be discontinued. And I'm going to be transferred to one called Standard PAYG Ultra for £10 a month. This has confused me a little. (Be patient I'm old )
The message is as follows:
"Your O2 tariff Simply Pay as you Go will soon be discontinued, so we're updating you to a new one. Don't worry your tariff cost won't increase. This'll happen between January - March 2025. Your new Pay as you Go tariff will be the Standard PAYG Ultra for £10 a month, giving you 1000 mins, 3000 texts, 1GB Data & 50 MMS - you'll keep your top up for usage outside these allowances. We'll be in touch a few days before the switch. For more info visit"
It then gives me a link.
It's just occurred to me, "you'll keep your top up for usage outside these allowances" Is this £10 a month for the allowance when I top up ? And I don't have to pay monthly ? It is isn't it ?
Sorry this has confused me a little as I don't use my phone very often, it's not even a smart phone. I would just like to make sure about this.
Regards.

I suggest you take your own advice and switch to the £5 bundle then.

Only discovered today my tariff and bolt ons were removed from my account as well as my credit when I logged into the website to top up. Phoned up the customer service and they said well you were told. I asked when was I contacted about this? She said well you received text messages. I have checked and yes I received a text message however that was 20th December 2024 stating that THEY will be in touch a few days BEFORE THE SWITCH. Along with the site https://v.o2.co.uk/d103U9v0
I was offered Standard PAYG Plus for £10 giving me 0 mins, 3000 texts, 500mb data & 50 MMS.
Upon reading the website they linked, its going to be a top-up account where they "automatically remove your credit for the benefits" so basically where you cannot stop the "automatically" unless you run out of credit in your account. SIGH.... so it is same as being on a contract pretty much. So no more keep your credit and not having to top up for 2 -3 months because you still have credit available to use for texting people.
I have to phone up to sort out my account and make a decision before my account is deleted and disconnected by end of month. I just use this account for gaming and google authenticator. Its so frustrating that you need a mobile phone in the first place and now they making me pay for something I am not even social with telling me they can offer many GB data and roaming... i never even left UK before and I cant even drive why would I need roaming I am always home.

You would be better off using standard rates on giffgaff

Thankyou for the suggestion.
I guess there just is no bundles anywhere now, where you top up and keep your credit, get a reward for topping up such as bonus data/texts then when the month expires you can then choose you use the credit left on your account but not forced into topping up again until credit runs out. As long as you text monthly to keep active.
O2 already deleted all my O2 rewards so nothing is salvageable. Just shocked how O2 has gone about all those who like me grandfathered in from TEXT AND WEB 300MB were rushed into this and no direct conversation with a customer service rep. Well over 15 years I been with O2. So sad about this. O2 did not have the best customer service but their offers were usually amazing, so disappointing.
Good luck to anyone else feeling lost and stuck in this situation.
I feel I am going to end up having to go to sky mobile (since I have sky broadband and PAYG landline with them) I have a Huawei mobile for work calls, with sky £8 month, unlimited calls and texts and 2gb data with unlimited rollover, I already have 80GB saved to use up. Problem is no google on it due to being Huawei and the world seems to be controlled by google, due to authenticator used by practically every 2FA, so this is why I continued to use I used this phone all these years, for gaming and google authentication. Seems sky currently has a offer for sky VIP in the app where it says you can get a sim for £5, 10gb data, unlimited calls and texts. Maybe by some miracle O2 will make a new package before end of month.

It may be worth you changing to the £5 bundle, as this has been confirmed to me as the best option for people like us, who seldom use their phone.

I've just been in an O2 shop and the £5 big bundle was confirmed as my best option. The £10 rolling option, really DOES take £10 a month once established. I hope this helps some people out there, as it's all very ambiguous online.

Be very careful with your advice as you are confusing rolling plans and big bundles. Neither of which are being offered to customers here. O2 are offering a simplicity tariff which is completely different.
Your £5 big bundle will also be taken monthly so you are at £60 a year for that tariff.

Have a look at a company called Silux Mobile they do the classic o2 PAYG just as a virtual operator
https://siluxmobile.co.uk/product-category/promo-sim/
You will need to pay £8 for the sim or £18 with £10 credit but worth a shot
