Can someone please explain how I can contact O2 from abroad to tell them about a stolen phone.

No phone so I can't ring a number!

As you still have internet access, you may be able to contact them vie Skype or WhatsApp using a number in this Guide: Coronavirus Community Help and Support. Also this may help: Use Skype to call O2 on 0800 032 1402

Twitter or Facebook might work, but you are going to need to contact O2 directly, @JanetS. Good luck.

@JanetS

Just to add for info, the process of reporting a lost and stolen phone.

Guide: Lost or Stolen O2 Device? - How to Report it

The important part is, it must be done within 24 hrs of it being stolen, otherwise you will be liable for any usage on your device.

Best of luck.

@JanetS

As pointed out by @pgn , you are posting on here so must have access to the internet. Which is why contacting O2 via Skype is your only option. All shown in the guide he gave you.

@JanetS Skype is free to download and to use to call 800 numbers. As you are calling from abroad, just make sure the prefix you use is +44800 rather than 0800.

I DO NOT WORK FOR O2
