Last Christmas gamers' hearts were broken as hackers from a group called Lizard Squad decided to take down the online networks of PlayStation and Xbox with a DDoS attack.
This year there may be more upset, as a new hacking collective – called Phantom Squad – has threatened it will strike again. They have said they will take both networks down for a week
If they succeed, there will be many people upset over the Christmas period....

They said they have had a year to improve security since the last attack....but they haven't

No doubt we'll all be hearing about Kyle aged 14 from Somerset come the new year and how surprised his mother is at him doing this as she genuinely thought he was playing pc games online those 7 hours every night after school.

The fact the networks go down is actually proof that the security works.
They don't hack, they simply all send millions of failed login attempts repeatedly in a few seconds and the system thinks it is under attack and shuts down.

So how would they sustain that for a week then @viridis? (if they say they will take it offline for a week?)
