"Apple responds to iPhone 6 Plus bending issue; says it’s ‘extremely rare’ in normal use"

Statement from Apple

"Our iPhones are designed, engineered and manufactured to be both beautiful and sturdy. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus feature a precision engineered unibody enclosure constructed from machining a custom grade of 6000 series anodized aluminum, which is tempered for extra strength. They also feature stainless steel and titanium inserts to reinforce high stress locations and use the strongest glass in the smartphone industry. We chose these high-quality materials and construction very carefully for their strength and durability. We also perform rigorous tests throughout the entire development cycle including 3-point bending, pressure point cycling, sit, torsion, and user studies. iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus meet or exceed all of our high quality standards to endure everyday, real life use.

With normal use a bend in iPhone is extremely rare and through our first six days of sale, a total of nine customers have contacted Apple with a bent iPhone 6 Plus. As with any Apple product, if you have questions please contact Apple."

I saw the piece on bbc news this morning.

Now iOS 8.0.2 resolves the No Service and Touch ID issues (some Australian users are apparently experiencing issues) this will hopefully bring some balance.

Apple invited some select media to their testing area to show what tests they do on the iPhone's. http://www.idownloadblog.com/2014/09/25/apple-invites-journalists-lab/

Ive had a sneaky little bend test at my Apple store and I'm personally satisfied with it. slight_smile

Not probably a good move and could have got me escorted from the shop ,but I had to try for myself ~ of course not applying the amount of force shown in the various clips perusing the net at the moment. wink

BoB, you should know the correct amount of force to test the bend is a vice and hammer

Rofl.  😉

One of the Apple Store employees did come over to ask if I needed any help as they spotted me taking the picture of me holding the 6 plus, which one is not supposed to do in the shop. 😞

Yeah they get all tetchy about taking pics of products.

I overheard one of the Genius say to a customer please don't take pictures of employees or the stock.

He had his hand over his store card hanging from a lanyard around his neck !

Because Apple have copyrighted and patented everything that shows "Apple" and their logo. By photographing you're contravening either or both
