Very interesting but I suspect that whilst us older generation could quite happily go away on holiday for 2 weeks without a smartphone, people who have grown up with this technology would terrible withdrawal symptons.

I can and do live without one.

Basic call and text phone, for anything else I use a laptop.

Satnav in the car which I can also use when a pedestrian..........my needs don't demand a "smart"phone wink

I could live without a smartphone (though i wouldn't want to), but I could make do with being contactable by mrs phillpark whenever the need arises via 2G technology! Still miss my Nokia 8850...

Haven't got any choice, going to USA for two weeks and o2 won't unlock iphone 6 unless i pay off the handset on refresh. No way am i paying for o2 roaming fees so the phone is staying at home 😞

You can use Tugo over wifi and it won't cost you anything.
Just turn on airplane mode then enable wifi to make sure you don't accidentally connect.
In fact, to be 100% sure you can set up Tugo whilst in UK and then take the sim out when you go away.
