I have been using Virgin Mobile for some time and was encouraged to switch to O2. I told VM I wanted to keep my old number and I have just put the O2 G4 SIM into my iPhone 8. I was delighted to see that I still have my old number but My O2 user details have a different number. How do I fix this?

If you mean what is showing in your MyO2 then it will update itself, usually within 24 hours.

If your phone has the number you want then don't worry about the number showing in My O2, it will correct itself when it has time to catch up. If not then you can change it yourself in My O2 under my details. If not then contact O2 and ask them to reset your account.
Give O2 a call on 202 or 0344 809 0202.
Or you can message O2 on Facebook ( https://o2uk.co/O2CFB) , Twitter ( https://o2uk.co/O2CTW) or Instagram ( https://o2uk.co/O2CIG), hopefully they should be able to help.

I see that the whole story about SIM swapping keeping the old number is that swapping on Fridays is not fully completed until the following Tuesday. Meanwhile on Monday I have no service at all. Is this normal? My mobile number is used as my identity by other agencies and having it out of service is not convenient.

Keep rebooting your phone with your new O2 sim in it
