It's a common scam to try and gain access to your account to upgrade and have a phone sent to them.
You need to change your O2 password immediately as they have access to your account, but can't do anything without the passcode that is sent to your phone when they instigate a change on your account.

The text from O2 was genuine, as I said, it's because the scammers have access to your account so you should change your password immediately.
