Ultimately, if the O2 signal is poor in the areas that you frequent, moving to another network when you are out of contract might be your answer. You could invest in PAYG SIMs from other networks and see what is the best for you.
Have you always found the O2 signal poor ? Has it recently deteriorated ? Have you moved home or work location ?
Does the network status tool that @MI5 has flagged up give you any clues ? ❓
