Why is 5G not available on PAYG?

As per the title, I know it isn't offered on PAYG, but I want to know why.  After all, the other provider give it on PAYG.

It was rolled out six years ago, they didn't do this when 3G became 4G.

Does anyone know if it will be made available or do I need to jump ship?

TBH, the sooner o2 dump PAYG the better and just mass port everyone to giffgaff the better...

@Southsider46

No one on here will know the real reason as WE ARE ALL CUSTOMERS like you so we can only summise, based on many years experience in the Mobile Industry, working with Mobiles, as well as been long term customers..

At the end of the day, its o2's business descision,  and sweet FA you or anyone else can do it implement either 5G, VoLTE, VoWIFI or anything else..

Dont like it leave, simples plenty of options in the market nowadays with Spusu, Mozillion, Slice Mobile, Flexifone etc

This is not customer services and we dont have access to your account
I do not work for o2 or any VMo2 /Telefonica/Liberty Global Company

Somebody might know, you can't speak for everybody.

Thanks for your input, I don't think you have anything to add that I don't already know.

I don't see how it can be a loss leader when it works out being more expensive than a contract.

I don't think the ARPU can be lower either, I know people who go through £50/month on PAYG.

What you need to take into account @Southsider46 is that many PAYG users on the legacy O2 Classic plan spend virtually nothing as it is a spare 'phone or is in a device such as a security system that 'phones "home" occasionally.

I cannot find the source for this now but I did once read that the average spend on O2 Classic PAYG across about ten million users is less than a couple of quid per month.

To counter your argument, I have had two contract phones in my house for the last twenty three years that I haven't had to pay a penny for.  I get free calls on them, so I keep them lying around.  There in no monthly fee, either.

If you can't back up your figures, there is no point in posting them.  It's as if they were plucked from thin air.

I'm only interested in the question I asked in my first post.  If you don't know the answer, I'd prefer it if you didn't post.

@Dave-O2 Can you lock this thread as it is just going round in circles

This is not O2 and we are all customers here similar to yourself and cannot answer account type queries.

If there are 2 phones just 'lying around' with free calls I'm not sure why the need for a PAYG phone at all?

As I said in previous posts, I'm only interested in replies pertaining to my original question.

The reason it is going in circles, is that people reply for no reason other than to increase their post count and post when they don't need to.  Ring any bells?
