Anyone know why? unlike o2 not to get this in to be honest, they have always had the others when they came out.

Received my phone this morning (only ordered it Saturday!) and first impressions - it's vert smart! A lot smaller than the original N97! I tell ya what though - it was a nightmare trying to sync my Contacts & Calandar from Outlook...!!! Ovi Suite synced my Contacts but somehow refused to sync my Calandar....! In the end, resorted to using Nokia's older PC Suite which worked a treat...!

......coming from iPhone 3G, let's see how I get on after a couple of days!

...well - a couple of days has now passed and can honestly say, yep, definately glad I got rid of my iphone to get this....!! wink

Now that I have a physical keypad as opposed to the iPhone's virtual one is a godsend!! Pretty much everything I could do on my iPhone, I can do on my N97 Mini - read emails, browse the web,Facebook,Twitter, YouTube,GPS Maps (with a compass!), download apps, the list goes on and on.......! wink

Only downside, as I mentioned in my previous post, was the shocking Ovi Suite! Not intuitive - AT ALL.....Smiley Mad It was a complete nightmare! It just would not sync Calendar, music, notes,nothing.....!

Using Nokia's own PC Suite is such a breeze compared to Ovi. It synced all my Contacts, Calendar, To Do notes, Music (with artwork I may add!), the lot....

....and the size of the handset compared to the iPhone, is very small! I'll never go back to Apple again......! grin

Thank you for the valuable insights, dude! slight_smile I've been using a N95 8GB for nearly a year and a half now and still don't feel an urge to replace it - got so much attached to it that switching to anything else seems somewhat painful at this point. However, I've always wanted to put my hand on a touch screen handset but I can still live without such. wink And I'm not sure the qwerty keyboard is worth more than the current one I've got. Is it? :robotindifferent: No matter how fast you can type on a PC/laptop keyboard, a qwerty phone keyboard seems unnecessary and unpractical to me. I mean, how am I going to continue writing text messages 1) without looking at the keyboard and 2) with just one finger (when necessary sometimes)? :womanindifferent: Anyway, I'm sticking to my hacked current boy toy on O2 Simplicity 20 for now - it has everything I need atm - from turning itself into a wi-fi hotspot, through free Nokia Ovi Maps navigation to free MS Office docs and tables viewing and editing (plus loads of minutes, texts and Internet as it already became apparent). Nevertheless, we'll see what there's going to be available on offer in a year's time.
Cheers, pals! slight_smile

For a N97 update check out my post on this link:-

viewtopic.php?p=192218#192218

I still have my N95 as backup, but I'm now glad I bought the N97.

As to using the qwerty keypad, the value is not so much in using it for 140 character or less text messages, as using it to write emails with all formatting and symbols, entering URL'S into web browser etc.

When I use my N95 now, I find myself pressing the screen - duh!

I use both Ovi Suite, and PC Suite. They are really different animals now. Ovi Suite is really a modern media manager, while PC Suite is a more technical utility for managing files. Of course there is overlap, but... horses for courses.

Anyway, the N97 is now pretty much the phone it should have been in the first place. It's not perfect, but what phone is? Using it on O2 for the past 6 months has been a bonus. As an unbranded phone, the firmware updates have been easier to get hold of.

Would I buy one now? I'm not sure. You'll recall (if you read my other post) that I now have an Archos 5 Internet Tablet. The only 2 things the N97 has, but which are missing from the Archos, is the camera and phone. The Archos has a reliable SatNav (with a the best 5 inch screen on the market of course), email, and loads of other features.

So there is loads of overlap. With the Archos I could do with a simpler, cheaper Smartphone, I guess.

I just couldn't resist the Archos.

Sigh...

I am due an upgrade on June 17th (as a Silver customer I believe) I would like it to be the N97 (like the idea of the Built-in FM, and my current phone is the N95 8GB).

Any idea if (and when) O2 will make the N97 available through their stores and online service for Pay Monthly customers?

Contacted Customer Service and just got it isnt available yet but may be in the future and they do have the N96 available! To be honest I would rather keep the N95 8GB then get an N96!

I can't see them ever releasing it to be honest. If they did plan to it would probably have been available at the same time as other companys to increase the chances of retaining customer's who wanted it. Even more so with the launch of the Palm Pre on O2

Err... June 17th? Should that be Jan 17th?

If not, there will be plenty of N97 opposition by June. I do like my N97 now. But if my contract was expiring in 5 months time, I'd definitely be looking at the opposition by then.

No June 17th, just looking into things early as I noticed it wasnt in their shops but was in others.

If they dont have the phone by June I think I will leave but as the N97 is considered to be better than the Palm Pre (well according to the reviews I read) I guess O2 may resist making the N97 available even by June.

But for people who have contracts expiring sooner anyone have any idea if O2 will make the N97 available?
