HELP - S6 Edge Wifi issues

Anonymous
Not applicable

Hi

I am experiencing Wifi issues with my S6 Edge. This has only started in last few days. I did the latest software update last weekend. 6.0.1

Basically the phone is showing as connected to my Wifi (BT Home hub) but the connection is very slow and next to unusable.

All my other devices are fine and fast; Galaxy tablet, 2 laptops, Sky box etc.

I have tried things like off/on, forget network and rejoin but nothing works. Basically most apps are unuseable due to the slow speed. It has always been fine and never had any issues since I got the phone in December 2015.

When I go to my router page sometimes it shows my phone being on the 5ghz and others the 2.4 ghz. It seems to work better on the 5 and not the 2.4. I can't see any way of selecting which one it goes on?

This is all very frustrating as my phone is now basically unusable. It comes and goes in patches but has happened twice today and once a few days ago.

Please help.

They are easy, just time consuming but it will clear out the deadwood from the previous version of the software. You may even find that you don't want to reinstall apps that you rarely use.

A quick google search leads to quite a few issues, but most are not that current.

Some fixes to try though:

turn off smart network switch - http://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s6-edge/514807-s6-edge-wifi-issues.html#post4358017

clear cache partition - http://thedroidguy.com/2015/06/how-to-fix-samsung-galaxy-s6-edge-thats-wont-connect-to-wi-fi-mobile-...

change wifi settings to either 2.4 or 5 (not both) and/or change phone setting to avoid low signal wifi - http://forums.androidcentral.com/ambassador-guides-tips-how-s/326698-guide-troubleshooting-wi-fi-con...

change router setting (I think, the post is not clear) to not use IPV6 - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=61996073&postcount=141

Give those a go and let us know if you have any other issues. Main point (albeit not great) is that you are not the only one with these problems!!

Hi

Thanks for reply.

Smart switch was and always has been off.

Clear cache done but no affect

I don't have option on phone to change between 2.4 and 5

IPV6 is set to disable.

Any other ideas? Call BT? I used O2 live chat and they were no use. Also called O2 who were beyond useless.

This is really bugging me as my phone is now next to useless. 😞

I would be contacting Samsung if you have done a factory reset after the update.

Hi

Basically guy on phone said all was fine his end and how odd it was.

Live chat basically got me to do off and on and forget and reconnect. Done this loads and nothing.

Where am I best served in contacting Samsung?

The setting is part of the router set up - you choose which frequency you use (2.4 is slower but goes further, 5 is faster but gets more interference from walls/buildings).

If you are still having issues then Samsung would be the next step. Make sure you tell them what you have tried so they don't keep repeating stuff you have already done.

If you have issues after a major update it's always advisable to back up and factory reset. However, speak to Samsung first to see if they have reports of this though they may also suggest a factory reset.
