Hi @Brenda52

It is possible if you follow the advice in this guide from Macworld

https://www.macworld.co.uk/how-to/iphone/recover-deleted-texts-iphone-3636380/

They suggest 5 methods. Use the one which suits you best

  • Retrieve from an iCloud backup
  • Retrieve from the iCloud website
  • Contact your phone provider
  • Retrieve from an iTunes backup
  • Retrieve using a third-party app

Hope you can get it sorted wink

Unless you backup to iTunes or iCloud you will have lost them.
They are the only 2 ways on an iPhone that will help you.
I have no affiliation whatsoever with O2 or any subsidiary companies. Comments posted are entirely of my own opinion. This is not Customer Service so we are unable to help with account specific issues.

Sad to say, making backups of your SMS messages is an afterthought on Android too, @MI5 - SMS Backup+ by Jan Berkel is the best one I have seen for Android - it integrates with GMail, allowing you to store all your SMS messages in GMail (and restore them to the phone, if you wish).

Seems the only way on an iPhone is to restore the complete phone from a previous backup of the device to iTunes/iCloud, is it?  That's a bit like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut...angry  Good luck, @Brenda52.

The article I linked to was published in February of this year @pgn

As it comes from Macworld it does give a variety of options. The one I would rule out is contacting your service provider as they would be no help whatsever!

As for Android, I use SMS backup+ and find that very useful

I too use sms backup+ and I believe i was the first to recommend it here on the community a good few years back. Is this not available on iOS or anything similar that the bods at Apple will allow?

Nothing I’m aware of but my iCloud backup is set to run daily so never needed to look.
